Fingerpicking Delights X is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of heritage, mentorship, and the enduring power of music to connect generations. Whether you come for the intricate guitar work, the rich storytelling, or the sense of community, this promises to be an unforgettable night.
The 10th Fingerpicking Delights concert celebrates the rich heritage of British Isles fingerpicking styles and their journey to Christchurch through migrant musicians. This year’s theme promises cultural depth and musical variety, with onstage stories delivered in authentic accents.
The lineup features outstanding talent:
Sionna (Irish duo): Lorcan Bolster (guitar/bouzouki) and Helen Fahy (fiddle) bring vibrant Irish energy. Both have strong musical pedigrees, performing at major festivals and local venues. Their harmonies and lively banter will charm audiences.
Willie McArthur (Scotland): A multi-instrumentalist rooted in Scottish folk traditions, Willie adds mandolin, harmonica, and whistles to his guitar artistry. Known for his One Man Band shows and support for emerging talent, he remains deeply connected to Scottish culture while embracing Kiwi life.
Adrian Hughes (South Wales): A fingerstyle guitarist blending blues, jazz, and Celtic influences. With a BA (Hons) in Music and a role as NZ representative for the London College of Music, Adrian combines technical mastery with expressive performance.
Tony Hale (Concert founder): A Folk Club veteran since 1971, Tony pays tribute to English guitarist Ralph McTell, whose ragtime and folk stylings shaped his own musical path. Vocals will be delivered by Kristina Godfrey, a versatile singer with choir and solo experience.
Jon Hooker (Headliner): Renowned for his clean picking and harmonic detail, Jon draws on influences from folk legends like John Renbourn and Bert Jansch. His career spans collaborations with top local artists and an eight-year tenure with Celtic group Rua. Tonight, he shares the stage with his son Jack Hooker, an accomplished guitarist and composer active in acoustic, electronic, and world music projects, including collaborations with John Psathas.
Laura Taylor: A seasoned folk musician and multi-instrumentalist, Laura adds depth with vocals and instrumental versatility, continuing her long-standing support of the Folk Club.
