Weekly Round Up: Friday 4th December
Tour news was pretty much tumbleweeds at the beginning of the week, but thankfully a handful of cool announcements hit the inbox today. Kurt Vile announced an Auckland show with his backing band The Violators for January in the wake of the cancellation of Echo Fest. Genre-defying British group The Stranglers are coming this way for a three-date tour in April. And iconic trip hop producer DJ Krush has lined up one Auckland show for January following the release of his first album in more than a decade. The one piece of tour news revealed earlier this week was that Britpop legend Noel Gallagher is winging his way over with his group The High Flying Birds for an Auckland concert in March. In festival news, controversial reggae singer Beenie Man was pulled from the Raggamuffin bill and replaced with openly gay Jamaican artist Diana King.
In release news, we got our hands on some amazing new singles this week. Auckland four-piece Invisible Threads shared the fantastic 'Cluedo' from their forthcoming album. Street Chant rolled out the old-new single 'Never' as they prepare to release their long awaited sophomore album Hauora. Producer Lontalius unveiled a wonderful single called 'Kick In The Head' that sees a change in sound from the talented teen. And on the video front, we were hyped to be able to share a striking new offering from Bespin that was filmed and directed by Ben Howe. This week was also saw plentiful album streams, with Encouragement letting loose their debut full-length record. Die! Die! Die! unveiled their London-recorded EP What Did You Expect. Tiny Ruins and Hamish Kilgour shared their lovely seven-song collaboration Hurtling Through. And from further abroad we were stoked to wrap our minds around Kannon from Sunn O))).
This week's Caught Live is a great clip from Shellac's show at the Kings Arms Tavern earlier this week...
