Dirtbag Awards Set To Return For 2016

Dirtbag Awards Set To Return For 2016

Wednesday 16th November, 2016 3:46PM

Lock it in your diary, the good hosts from bFM's Dirtbag Radio show are once again holding their Awards For Bands That Aren't Shit. The awards, which take place early next month, aim to "celebrate the hard-working, under-praised musicians, artists, bar staff, promoters and sound engineers that make up our local underground music scene". The event is becoming a firm highlight in the degenerate calendar with two years tucked successfully under their collective belts, and this year's event is looking set to be even slicker.

The Dirtbags have expanded the awards to a total of 22 categories for 2016, which will include “non-Dirtbag” genres: hip-hop/beats, metal and folk pop and experimental (though they are sticking strictly by their 'NO JAZZ' modus operandi ). "In an attempt to be more inclusive, we have also included categories to represent our wider bNet radio whānau and the music being made in their backyards," they explain in a statement.

Best Live Act nominees will play live during the evening, as well as a very special international band that will be announced closer to the date.

Online voting survey opens 28th November, so make sure to keep an eye out for the link.
