Live Photos: NZ Showcase At The Great Escape - One Church Brighton, England
The Great Escape festival started in Brighton, England, back in 2006 and is now the biggest music industry conference and showcasing event in the United Kingdom - people often refer to it as SXSW-UK. This year 450 bands played across 30 venues with 3000 delegates attending from around the world.
Last week, five New Zealand artists performed at The Great Escape - Aldous Harding, Kane Strang, Fazerdaze, Delaney Davidson and Jesse Sheehan. All the acts played between two and five shows during the week and drew good crowds – including queues to get into both Fazerdaze gigs and all three Aldous Harding shows, including her headline performance at the BBC Radio 6 Showcase.
The annual NZ Showcase at The Great Escape was held last Friday afternoon in One Church - a 250 capacity historical building in the seaside town - and saw Aldous, Kane, Delaney and Jesse perform to an eager crowd. Unfortunately, Fazerdaze was unable to make it as she was scheduled to play at the Cardinal Session Festival in Hamburg, Germany. But in a happy coincidence, the date also doubled as the release day for Aldous Harding's hotly anticipated second album, Party.
