Caught Live: Tami Neilson Performs 'The First Man' At Holy Trinity Cathedral
Auckland via Canada soul powerhouse Tami Neilson has a top-to-toe Aotearoa tour in the pipeline and recently graced the stage at the Holy Trinity Cathedral for an absolutely heart wrenching performance of 'The First Man'. The song first rose to the surface on Neilson’s 2016 album Don’t Be Afraid, a collection that became a tribute to her late father Ron Neilson who died shortly before she started recording. Talking to Exclaim! when the album was released, Neilson explained "I wanted to pay tribute to him and honour him by using his music in the project as well. I really became driven for this to be all about dad and not really about me at all". The live footage shows Tami Neilson, Delaney Davidson and band in full swing under dramatic lighting, intercut with old clips of Ron Neilson and a young Tami in their family band. Prepare to get a little teary in the video below, and take a good look at the extensive tour she’s got lined up for Spring, including a headline spot in The Southern Fork Americana Fest 2019…
