Weekly Roundup: Friday 22nd November

C.C. / Friday 22nd November, 2019 7:51PM

Announcement highlights for the week included Don McGlashan and The Mutton Birds revealed they'll be playing a second Wellington headline event as part of their summer nationwide tour due to intense demand, Tāmaki Makaurau-based guitar poppers Ha The Unclear are gifting fans with two special Christmas parties this December, Aotearoa independent imprint 1:12 Records are also getting into the festive swing of things with a mouth-watering Xmas rager at Whammy Bar this December, Tāmaki Makaurau sound and performance artist Jazmine Mary (previously known as him) will soon be travelling across Aotearoa celebrating the launch of their forthcoming single 'We like to Party', and Aotearoa multimedia collective Kuki Koori will be dazzling the senses at Pōneke's Space Place Planetarium Dome in December.

We caught up with musician and designer Luke Wood, curator of the absolutely crucial A Short Run: A Selection Of New Zealand Lathe-Cut Records exhibition currently showing at Tāmaki Makaurau's Objectspace gallery. You can read his in-depth conversation with Chris Cudby about this must-see show and the broader cultural context of the traditionally transparent 'Geraldine vinyl' format right here. We were proud to premiere the latest single from Pōneke's ONONO, the psych-pop project of Jono Nott (Hans Pucket, Broods), whose catchy new song 'Fontelina' explores reflective and futuristic, synth-infused realms – listen here. We also shared possibly our most exciting UTR Caught Live episode to date, featuring Tāmaki Makaurau hip hop rising stars Church & AP bringing the party at their Galatos album release show, peep the footage here. Wrapping up the week's activities, our slightly tardy November 2019 Playlist made it online on Monday, showcasing a killer selection of cuts from throughout Aotearoa and beyond – dive in and explore the tracks here.

Our Caught Live clip for the week features Pōneke heavy psych travellers Earth Tongue, who'll be blowing minds and eardrums across Aotearoa on their long-awaited Floating Being album release tour in December. Open your third eye to the impending sonic onslaught with awesome recent live footage of Gussie Larkin (Mermaidens) and Ezra Simons (Onono), tearing holes in reality with their song 'Portable Shrine' at Valhalla...
