Alec Bathgate Shares 'Jane/John' Mini EP
From the ashes of a year going up in flames, Alec Bathgate of iconic New Zealand bands Toy Love, Tall Dwarfs and The Enemy unveils his third surprise release in as many months. Jane/John follows single '73 Smash' and instrumental collection Phantom Dots, Bathgate's first full length solo album since 2004's The Indifferent Velvet Void. The mini drop consists of two charming guitar-pop singles, shared in time for the two year anniversary of the death of former Toy Love band mate and keyboardist Jane Walker, who features on the cover art and the opening track is written for. Short and sweet, 'Jane' recounts a trip Bathgate took to visit Walker in London in 2010, with reflective lyrics "Goodness me, it's hard to believe, how we look now, and how we turned out like people we once laughed about". On social media Bathgate's teased the next single on the way ‘Burble’, another instrumental he's described as "Ten minutes of insistent rhythms and burbling synths". Can't wait! Enjoy his latest two tracks here, and take a moment to remember Jane Walker...
