Shepherds Reign Perform 'Le Manu' - UTR Trash Recital Episode 4
We're stoked to share the fourth episode of our new web series created in collaboration with the talented gang at Sports Team: UTR Trash Recital!
For each episode of Trash Recital we've invited some of our favourite Aotearoa artists into the UTR studios to perform one of their signature songs, re-created using everyday items selected from a treasure trove of literal trash, collected by Sports Team from Tāmaki Makaurau's finest op shops / second hand stores. Trash Recital not only provides a launchpad for stunning reimaginings of recent classic tunes, but also the perfect opportunity for a chinwag with our local musical heroes.
We've been looking forward to this one — for our fourth episode we invited South Auckland's Shepherds Reign to work their Polynesian metal magic using our UTR office trash pile. The team of Filiva'a James (Ngāti Hāmoa), Gideon Voon (Ngāti Hainamana), Joseph Oti-George (Ngāpuhi), Shaymen Rameka (Ngāi te Rangi, Te Arawa), and Oliver Leupolu (Ngāti Hāmoa) treated us to a pulse-pounding reinvention of their latest single 'Le Manu' — meaning "The Beast" in Samoan (not be to be confused with the extinct Manu bird, as they point out in the vid below). Experience Shepherds Reign's literally metallic new take on the song below along with a first-hand history of the group and don't miss them tearing up the stage at Whammy Bar on 22nd July, supported by Coridian and Just One Fix. Be sure to keep it locked for Trash Recital Episode 5, dropping in just two weeks time...
