Unknown Mortal Orchestra Returns With Single 'Weekend Run'

If you've been strolling around Tāmaki Makaurau over the past week or so, you may have encountered enigmatic posters of Ruban Nielson dotted about the landscape, depicting the Unknown Mortal Orchestra mastermind seemingly in "Dad on holiday" mode. Well now the jig is up, as UMO have graced our Friday with the first "official" new single since 2018's world conquering fourth studio album Sex & Food, following collaborations with such internationally revered figures as Gorillaz and Free Nationals. Entitled 'Weekend Run', the slyly catchy new tune mixes up a sonic cocktail of time-defying yacht rock elements swirled around with UMO's unmistakably dreamy je ne sais quoi, with world-weary lyrics looking to shake off the stresses of lives locked in a loop. I'm personally always a sucker for a tune that name drops days of the week while questing for a little free time, and all signs indicate there'll be more songs on the way from the now Palm Springs-based artist in the near future. Sounding not unlike how it can feel to crawl out of bed in the morning, kick off your own 'Weekend Run' right here...

"At the end of the day I don't take for granted that I have the perfect job -- I truly work to make music that will set someone's day right and I think that shines through on 'Weekend Run.'" - Ruban Nielson

'Weekend Run' is out now on major streaming services via Jagjaguwar.
