Lips Share Single + Video 'Empty Hours'
When they're not screaming through epic pop-punk tracks, Tāmaki's Lips write romantic piano ballads like today's new single 'Empty Hours' from their forthcoming album I Don't Know Why I Do Anything (out this Friday!). Silver Scroll-winning songwriter duo Stephanie Brown and Fen Ikner fall deep into the synthosphere on the album's fourth single, dialling back the bpm from 'Guilty Talk', 'Heave Ho' and 'Your Deodorant Doesn't Work' to be sweet and slow dance-able. Sparked from Avantdale Bowling Club's Tom Scott asking Brown to contribute to a reimagined Street Fighter II soundtrack, 'Empty Hours' was originally the Lips version of a theme for character Chun Li, with the in-game flute riff acting as a jumping off point.
Not only did Ikner co-produce and mix the track, he also created an 'Empty Hours' 8-Bit inspired lyric video, featuring Lips as player one. Lips begin their Phoebe Rings double-header Aotearoa tour this month with bandmates Ruby Walsh and Maude Morris — dates, tickets and venues right here...
