The Situations Return With Single 'Family Ties'

The Situations Return With Single 'Family Ties'

Chris Cudby / Thursday 15th July, 2021 12:42PM

Papakura rock n roll legends The Situations have returned with a brand new gem to keep you bopping into the afternoon and beyond named 'Family Ties', available on strictly limited lathe cut 7" with Ōtautahi's Transistors. Bringers of good times since day one, The Situations' signature garage-pop catchiness is in full effect as they weave a heartwarming tale of love and whānau. Lucky Cantabrians can catch them this Saturday dishing up "a night of power pomping rock 'n' roll" with Transistors and Model Home at Space Academy. Celebrating their first new release since the group's ace 2018 album The Day After The Night Before, The Situations' Samuel Kett explained the story behind the song...

"This waiata is about a few different things all intertwined. There’s the specific story about meeting my wife and the adventures we have shared travelling and living across the globe. Then there’s the idea of meeting someone and creating a new whānau that connects your extended families. Then there’s the idea that no matter where you go your whānau and whakapapa are always with you. I guess those are the kinds of things that I think about roughly speaking but I hope folks interpret the song in whatever way makes sense to them."
