Two years into the Covid-19 pandemic and Aotearoa's music community is facing a new wave of restrictions on live events due to the emergence of Omicron, prompting the cancellation of festivals including The Others Way and the postponement of numerous nationwide tours. Red traffic light restrictions look to remain in place for the immediate future, with seated and spaced out gigs still being able to proceed, but at the much lower audience limit of 100 maximum (where My Vaccine Passes are used).

As Aotearoa's longest-running independent ticketing and music news website (over fifteen years and counting), we've been significantly impacted by the new Red restrictions. Revenue from ticketing live shows helps the UTR team keep bringing you the best breaking music news, interviews, playlists and so much more, including our ongoing Trash Recital video series created with Sports Team. We're urging readers who have the resources to do so to please consider supporting UTR, either by donation / subscription or by purchasing some of our swish merch. Your kindness and generosity will be hugely appreciated, and will directly enable us to continue celebrating NZ's vibrant live music community ♡

We're encouraging ticket holders to consider supporting artists and organisers by opting to hold onto tickets, opting out of refunds and opting out of booking fee refunds. For our updated rundown of useful resources for both local musicians and music lovers, head over HERE.

Tāmaki multidisciplinary artist Jazmine Mary has penned a powerful letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, imploring the government to consider providing financial aid for our music industry under Red — read more HERE.
