Listen To Dry Cleaning's New Album 'Stumpwork'

Chris Cudby / Friday 21st October, 2022 10:33AM

Sporting impressively abject, yet delicately crafted cover artwork of pubes on soap by design team Rottingdean Bazaar, UK post-punks Dry Cleaning have foisted upon the world studio album number two Stumpwork. The fast follow-up to their 2021 debut New Long Leg (a UTR office stereo favourite) fleshes out Dry Cleaning's signature spoken word / noise rock approach, bundling recent singles 'Anna Calls From The Arctic', 'Gary Ashby', 'No Decent Shoes For Rain' and 'Don't Press Me' with seven new 'songs'. We've earlier described the band's sound as a bit like an instrumental pileup between The Fall and Jesus Lizard, with guitarist Tom Dowse's more melodic moments on the new record feeling akin to Smiths-era Marr — while vocalist Florence Shaw's inimitable, semi-narrative wordplay illustrates contemporary scenarios at various points hilarious, poignant, scathing and absurd.

If you haven't already scored a ticket to see Dry Cleaning in Auckland and Wellington this December you made a big mistake, as both shows are now sold out — hit play on Stumpwork and order your own vinyl / cassette copy to cherish right HERE...

'Stumpwork' is out today via 4AD, vinyl and cassette orders available HERE.
