Concluding an impeccable run of singles, Tāmaki Makaurau electronic producer deepState aka Jessica Morgan sticks the landing with her second long player Dreams. Ruling student radio airwaves in '23 with the rave piano enhanced 'Won't Let You Down', the haunted beatscape of 'Now That You're Gone' and the title track's soulful textures, deepState's atmospheric new collection can feel like a nocturnal journey within her sprawling super city — riding highs and lows through moments of loneliness and togetherness. New tracks such as the buoyant 'Adore You' and the sax-infused 'a.m.' convey almost impressionistic, abstract qualities before snapping into widescreen focus, the classy house of 'This Times For Real' displays deepState's knack for minimalism, and closer 'Nature' dissolves this listener into a fog-like mist. "I feel like electronic music can allow for a certain level of anonymity, even if people know who you are as a producer. In particular for me the ways in which you can manipulate vocal samples to sound less or more like your own voice, affords me a sense of comfort in creating more emotionally driven tracks. I think this album is probably the most emotive collection of music I've made to date."
