C.R. Avery Touring New Zealand with The Storm Collective
Since his debut visit transforming our bars into cocoons wrapped in vivid storytelling with his Fightin’ Words and a Girl Named Mercy tour, Canadian poet / musician C.R. Avery returns to Aotearoa next month to celebrate his latest album The Bar Without A Neon Sign. The 07:17 Records soundtrack is for his original film of the same name, written and directed by the theatre veteran himself. The Bar... was "made with a very small group of friends during the 3 years of lockdown in make shift studios with very little cash flow." He’ll be performing as a trio this time, joined by his band The Storm Collective: jazz pianist Shannon Scott and bassist / percussionist Ross Fairbairn have been performing with Avery for the past sixteen years. As always, we can expect a mind-blowing mash of beatbox prowess, Chicago blues goodness and spoken word poetry…
