Aotearoa club music connoisseurs are soon to be treated to a visit from London-based DJ / producer Papa Nugs, moving the crowd at Te Whanganui-a-Tara's MOON then venturing to Tāmaki Makaurau for a Saturday night rager at Il Brutto. Monthly resident on Rinse FM — "specialising in high energy breaks, electro, trance, ghetto tech & everything in between" — Papa Nugs arrives on our shores following the launch of his latest beat manifesto Nug Nation. Papa Nugs is a London based producer, DJ & record collector with a bag traversing trance, techno, electro, breaks and multiple flavours of house from progressive to Trade-era hard house all whilst drawing influence from the sounds rooted in the UK scene from which he came. The past year has seen notable growth in Papa Nugs’ artistic development, both as a producer and DJ. Now a Rinse FM resident, he has performed at a number of massive festivals and venues including Glastonbury, Gottwood, Fabric, Twisted, The Cause & fledgling Madruga Festival. The upcoming months mark an exciting shift in the Nuggys’ output as a producer, with his sound moving towards a four to the floor interpretation of the aforementioned records he’s been digging. Releases at the tail end of last year on RAND Muzik, WARNING Berlin, Semi Delicious and the launch of his new label ‘SUCKERPUNCH’ will ensure if you’re still unfamiliar with him, you won’t be for long.
