Luke Buda Announces Nationwide Tour ft. Phoebe Rings in Auckland & Wellington

Chris Cudby / Thursday 22nd February, 2024 10:01AM

A straightforward idea, yet surprisingly tricky to do justice as a concise headline. The Phoenix Foundation co-founder Luke Buda is touring nationwide with his own red hot live group this coming April — playing headline dates in Ōtautahi and Ōtepoti, plus double headline shows alongside sonic spellbinders Phoebe Rings in Tāmaki Makaurau and Pōneke. The Silver Scroll-winning artist (for 'Apple Pie Bed' with Lawrence Arabia) will finally be touring his 2021 solo album BUDA with full band, featuring Olivia Campion, Jacqui Nyman and Anita Clark. Buda is vowing to perform most of his Taite Music Prize shortlisted record "and if the mood is right might even throw in a Cher cover and a couple of Phoenix Foundation favourites."

Lighting up our airwaves with their superb sophist-pop latest single '아스라이 (Aseurai)', Phoebe Rings are the super city-based project of Crystal Choi with Alex Freer, Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent and Ben Locke. Buda is also teasing a brand new single out soon with more details to be revealed — catch him with band at all of the following dates, sharing the bill with Phoebe Rings at Whammy Bar and Meow...

Press release:

This April Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Luke Buda (he/him) - with hot new single imminent - is finally taking his band on tour. Featuring some of the hardest working musicians in Aotearoa: Olivia Campion (she/her, Yumi Zouma, Mystery Waitress, Grayson Gilmour), Jacqui Nyman (she/her, Bret McKenzie Band, Grayson Gilmour) and Anita Clark, (she/her, Motte, Lawrence Arabia, Don McGlashan and The Phoenix Foundation) they’ll play most of his 2021 solo album Buda and if the mood is right might even throw in a Cher cover and a couple of Phoenix Foundation favourites.

It’s a tour of two halves:

First Buda and band play two intimate headline shows at Ōtepoti Dunedin’s Yours and Space Academy in Christchurch.

The second half sees an exciting musical exchange programme between Te-Ika-a-Māui's two epicenters. As Tāmaki Makaurau's Phoebe Rings - fresh from recording their debut album - join Buda to play shows at Meow in Te Whanagnui-a-Tara Wellington and Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's Whammy Bar, in an exhibition of mutual admiration you will not want to miss.
