Listen To Hannah Everingham's New Album 'Siempre Tiene Flores'
Quickly established as a preeminent songwriting voice in Aotearoa, Hannah Everingham follows 2022's debut album BETWEEN BODIES with Siempre Tiene Flores (meaning ‘always have flowers’), out today via Leather Jacket Records and her own Underunderground Records. Embracing warm latin guitar and percussive shimmy on second track 'Maria', the Ōtautahi artist's new body of work feels observant, imaginative and sonically inquisitive, conjuring intimate auras without wallowing in introspection. Latest single 'To Hold' journeys into reverberated realms of strumming rumination, while playful aural elements enliven the backdrops of 'Qué Angustía' (there are multiple songs in Spanish here) and the dream-scape storytelling strut of 'The Moon Gardener'.
Touring her new opus in April and May, Everingham shares a bonus gift for fans with nostalgia-textured 8mm visuals for 'To Hold' — directed by Ella Waswo, filmed by Jamie Price and incorporating "found footage from Jamie’s family collection." Hit play below and make a beeline to catch Everingham on tour this autumn...
“I think the songs might serve as love-letters to those flowers. We recorded this album one dense winter in Ōtautahi, and somehow it became this very warm, almost tropically minded, piece of work. I remember Doug, who plays percussion + vibraphone on the record, brought a whole lot of his homegrown dried fruit along to the days we spent recording and I ate a lot of the dried plums and pears. I’m thinking maybe I can hear the fruit’s presence on the record, the evolution of the flowers."
