Phoebe Rings Share Single 'Mandarin Tree'
Phoebe Rings daydream about building a fruitful and stable life amidst a housing crisis in ‘Mandarin Tree’, the second single since the release of their debut self-titled EP. Phoebe Rings has spread its roots outward from the dream pop solo work of Crystal Choi to welcome into the creative fold Ben Locke (Sea Views), Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent (Lucky Boy) and Alex Freer (A.C. Freazy). In their fresh bushel of ‘Mandarin Tree’, the Tāmaki Makaurau-based band share a boppy haze of layered instrumentation, with finger picked guitar and rolling synths. Mixed by Jeremy Toy and mastered by Kelly Hibbert, the backing vocals, along with the lap steel and fuzz guitar, surge towards the treetops as Choi sings of changing winds and darkening leaves.
Phoebe Rings will be playing two double-headline shows with Luke Buda (The Phoenix Foundation) in Tāmaki Makaurau and Pōneke next week. Watch out for falling satsumas you can rip open and share, plus any hints of Phoebe Rings dropping a debut album from above hopefully soon…
