The Situations Unveil Single / Video 'Local Customs' + Announce Album Release Shows

Chris Cudby / Wednesday 10th July, 2024 1:47PM

Keeping Tāmaki Makaurau attendees toasty at last month's Matariki street party smack dab in the middle of Karangahape Road, The Situations follow through with new single / video combo 'Local Customs' and the announcement of their fourth album Winning Home and Away. The Papakura and Pakuranga "power pomp popsters" surely merit legendary status at this point in their two decade plus musical journey together, dispensing effervescent garage-pop hooks and sage-like wordplay like few others. Their insta-catchy 'Local Customs' balances the desire to embrace new spaces (dare I say "situations") with the accrued personal experiences we carry from place to place — paired with a beaut montage of globe-trotting travel footage that makes this viewer fiend for overseas adventures. Soak up the splendour of 'Local Customs' and head along to catch Samuel Kett, Stuart Kett and Brad Walkington's album release shows in Ōtautahi and the super city this winter...

"This waiata is about settling into an existence, a new space, between deserts and forests, while leaning on old wisdom. Kinda inspired by the constant travel in and out of Aotearoa since 2013 and noticing how it is changing, the good aaaaaand the embarrassing."
— Samuel Kett
