Full Lineup Announced for Lines Of Flight 2025 Festival
Ōtepoti Dunedin's biennial celebration of aural adventurousness, the lineup for Lines of Flight 2025 has been rounded out with some sterling new additions, including legendary sound artist and songwriting savant Alastair Galbraith (A Handful of Dust, The Rip). For the festival's momentous 25th anniversary this October, Lines of Flight will kick off at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, then head over to Port Chalmers for a variety of live performances and discussions spanning three days in total. The incredibly handy daily timetable has been revealed too, so note the updated details and keep ears peeled for sonic surprises galore. Here's the official lowdown...
The final acts have been confirmed for Lines of Flight, and lineups for each show wrangled into shape. We have assembled some of the most exciting acts in Otepoti, reflecting the incredibly strong musical scene in the city.
Alastair Galbraith has been making music for over 40 years and is a long-respected figure in the international experimental music community. For LOF he will be performing solo, then in a duo with Jackson Harry, and finally with a full band.
Rubbish Fundraiser is the tape loop / 16mm film loop mashup of LSD Fundraiser and Chris Schmelz, combining sound and live film for an improvised all analog expanded cinema experience.
Blue Cheese is the wild pop-dada collective of Poppy Ophelia; the sprawling lineup includes members of King Loser, Negative Nancies, Children’s Letters to God, OHM, Sewage and Denudes.
Tara Sharp is the expanded drum project of Madison Kelly (Hoha), playing with pickups, pedals and percussion. Fleshbug return from the last festival, with their wahine-driven guitar noise adrenalin music.
Youbeepastablaster is an exciting young talent, utilising tape manipulation and a plunderphonics approach to sound.
The Friday afternoon Artists’ Talk will focus on some other examples of labels and venues in the Aotearoa experimental community. Bruce Russell will talk about his labels Xpressway and Corpus Hermeticum, Jo Burzynska will give the history of the Otautahi wine/music venue the Auricle, Jonny Marks will talk on the Te Whanganui-a-Tara experimental mainstay the Pyramid Club, and Pat Kraus will discuss the Modern Electronic Library (MEL) at Tamaki Makaurua’s Audio Foundation. This will be a free event, held at the Port Chalmers Pioneer Hall.
There will also be various other musical surprises throughout the festival to look forward to.
