Shayne P. Carter Announces South Island Solo Tour

Shayne P. Carter Announces South Island Solo Tour

Chris Cudby / Friday 12th September, 2025 3:00PM

In Tāmaki Makaurau this weekend for a headline date at Double Whammy, Shayne P. Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer, The DoubleHappys) has just announced a very special solo tour of Te Waipounamu. The multi-award-winning focus of director Margaret Gordon's incisive, startling and ultimately uplifting new rockumentary Life In One Chord — itself drawing on Carter's must-read memoir Dead People I Have Known — Carter will perform solo in a variety of intimate southern settings this October.

Revealing this morning in conversation with 95bFM Breakfast that somebody had grabbed his suitcase of guitar FX pedals at the airport (as well as taking swipes at the latest Superman film), if readers could spread the word to track that down, we presume it'd help make this Saturday's show much smoother. Do not miss one of Aotearoa's most iconic artists of the past four decades at the following dates...

Press release:

A cornerstone of Aotearoa’s musical landscape, Shayne P. Carter has led some of the country’s most influential acts from the teenage punk of Bored Games and the noise-pop force of The DoubleHappys, to the genre-defining Straitjacket Fits and the ever-evolving Dimmer. With a storied solo career and countless side projects to his name, Carter is now the subject of Margaret Gordon’s new documentary Life in One Chord, premiering in cinemas across the motu as part of the New Zealand Film Festival.

To mark the occasion, the award-winning songwriter and author returns to the stage for a special solo performance.
