Press release:
Violet Hirst & Michael Llewellyn present 'Spring Duet' an intimate run of shows across Aotearoa.
Born and raised in Tāhuna Queenstown, Violet's musical journey began the day she was born: opening night of her mother's musical Kitchens. Her songs and live performance embody the theatrics and ballads that surrounded her childhood. Quoted as one of Aotearoa’s “most quietly distinctive contemporary songwriters,” (13th Floor) she gains comparisons to Aldous Harding and Julia Jacklin. Earning recognition on SRN and Radioscope scharts, Violet has received wide support from Vice, RNZ, Flying Nun and Rolling Stone. Combining layered vocal melodies with meditative rhythms and poignant lyrics from a young woman, Violet's songs showcase a unique artist at work.
Michael Llewellyn is a songwriter from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa, known for raw lyricism, magnetic live performances, and emotionally vivid storytelling. Drawing from indie rock n roll, alternative folk, and poetic balladry, his songs have earned support from RNZ, Rolling Stone AU/NZ, NZ Student Radio, and audiences across New Zealand. He has shared stages with Marlon Williams, The Veils, Fazerdaze, and French For Rabbits, and is currently preparing the release of his third studio album ‘Strange Horses’.
