So So Modern Return With 'Light Years' EP

Without a doubt the group who encapsulate the technicolour vibrancy of Te Whanganui-a-Tara's party-loving indie music community in the late '00s / early '10s, welcome back So So Modern, who today unwrap their first new EP in over a decade Light Years. Adorned with brightly airbrushed cover designed by Lily Paris West (Mermaidens), So So Modern's first ever vinyl release is the product of a newly forged alliance with Flying Nun Records and Holiday Records.

The super-tight synergy of Daniel, Aidan, Grayson and Mark hasn't skipped a beat since 2013's Transpacific Express, in fact the energy levels feel even higher, harkening to the wild post-punk of their fan-making initial run of EPs. Very much a meditation on the passing of time and our own intertwining trajectories, SSM's optimistic spirit endures on Light Years, like a zone of resistance against the undignified absurdities of an even more digitally mediated era.

Lovers of tangly guitars, sci-fi synths, gang chants and powerhouse rhythms will be in for a treat at next month's EP release shows in the capital.
