Weekly Round-Up: Friday 7th February

Weekly Round-Up: Friday 7th February

Friday 7th February, 2014 2:14PM

And into the second month of the year we go, with plenty more amazing shows and festivals to satiate your live music cravings coming up (see gigs section below). As for new tours though, it's been a quite week with only few show updates to speak of, but great updates all the same, with Odd Future announced to replace Kendrick Lamar at Rapture 2014 and Australian psych-rockers Pond announced to be supporting Arctic Monkeys in May.

In release news, and The Cure got the week off to a good start announcing the release of a new album this year and have new tour plans sparking  a petition to get them back down our way - their last tour in 2007 having resulted from a similar petition. The Horrors are expected to release their new album this year, with member Tom Furse telling NME it was hardwork but is ultimately a step up from previous releases, Mastodon working on a new album with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones),  St Vincent has released the first video form her new self-titled album and a third single titled 'Prince Johnny',  eccentric Canadian musician and artist Chad VanGaalen announced the release of a new album and shared the first single Beck has shared a second single from his new album Morning Phase out later this month,  we caught up with psych-rockers Temples whose new album Sun Structures is out here today, local trio Mermaidens have released their debut EP Bones for free download and Pink Moutaintops - aka Steve McBean from Black Mountain,  has announced the release of a new album in April and shared a seedy first single.

In other news making the rounds this week, famously mysterious producer Burial finally revealed himself, posting a selfie and note of thanks to those who've supported his music; in what has been dubbed 'cordgate' by some, Red Hot Chilli Peppers have copped flack all week for performing at the Super Bowl without any of their gear being plugged in, miming along to an pre-recorded track and generally the Super Bowl has been near unavoidable but not necessarily all bad, resulting in a Seinfeld reunion of sorts with Jerry and George getting together for a 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' bit.

Finally our video of the week finds Andrew WK partying with famed internet cat Lil Bub, debuting a new song called 'Star Party Animal' - of course...
