Weekly Round-Up: Friday 14th February

Weekly Round-Up: Friday 14th February

Friday 14th February, 2014 2:45PM

After a quiet start to the month things picked up a bit this week tour-wise with Dizzee Rascal announced to return for the sixth time in April/May for two headline shows, The Jezabels were also announced to return for headline shows following their appearance at Laneway last month, Californian bands The Growlers and Tommorow's Tulips were announced for a one-off Auckland show next month, alternative US band La Dispute announced two all ages shows with Balance and Composure in June and we caught up with Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats and Chet Faker ahead of their respective shows next week.

There's been a bit drama on the tour front also this week starting with Megadeth who pulled out Soundwave and their Australian sideshows after a bizarre spat with festival promoter AJ Maddah but were confirmed to appear in Auckland next week as scheduled. Then of course there is Odd Future. Never far from controversy, they have been deemed a risk to public safety by New Zealand immigration and denied entry to the country just days out from their scheduled appearance at Rapture with festival organisers, at the time of this post, yet to release a statement about the situation.

To release news and Savages have announced the release of a new EP this year to follow  up their acclaimed debut album Silence Yourself from last year, the new Shocking Pinks album has been made available to stream ahead of it's official release next month, Thee Oh Sees have announced the release of a new album in April titled Drop and shared the first single, Grayson Gilmour has shared a second single from this new album Infinite Life! out next month, Young Hellion's debut self-titled EP was released today and is available to stream, Wild Beasts released another great single from their forthcoming new album Present Tense, Metronomy released a video for the title track of their new album Lover Letters this week which was directed by Academy Award winner Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind), Brisbane shoe-gazers Roku Music released a second single from their debut album out next month,  Off! shared a funny clip for 'Void You Out' from their new album Wasted Years out in April and Echo and The Bunnymen have nearly completed work on a new album, their 12th, which they've been recording with Youth from Killing Joke.

Caught live we have The Flaming Lips and Sean Lennon performing 'Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds' as part of a Beatles tribute week on Letterman which also saw covers performed by Lenny Kravitz, Sting and Broken Bells but no one can out do the psychedelic spectacle of Wayne Coyne....
