Weekly Round-Up: Friday 22nd August

Friday 22nd August, 2014 4:30PM

This week saw Lorde announce that she will be wrapping up her global Pure Heroine Tour with a series of headline shows in New Zealand in October. The same month will see pop princess Miley Cyrus head over for one show at Auckland's Vector Arena. Also visiting the country will be Japanese house producer Rondenion who is playing two shows next week across Auckland and Christchurch. Closer to home, Wellington act Hans Pucket is joining with Yor Cronies and T.A.B for a short jaunt around the lower North Island. In September, Shapeshifter, The Upbeats will be hitting the road to celebrate the release of collaborative  EP SXUB, and will be joined by MC Tiki for the live shows. The same month will see Christchurch post-punk group No Broadcast  embark on an extensive nationwide tour to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut. Looking forward to New Year's, the organisers of Camp A Low Hum have planned an indoor extravaganza - called A Low Hum House - but will not be announcing the partaking bands. And finally, more acts have been added to the Northern Bass festival, with Goldie and Ghostface Killah now on the bill.

In release news, Auckland trio PALS are poised to unveil their debut "album-ish thing" tomorrow and have shared track 'Boz Scaggs' in anticipation. Synth-pop darling Little Bark is streaming her sophomore album USB ahead of it's official release next Friday. A new single has been revealed by multi-instrumentalist Will Wood in the lead up to the release of his debut album Broken Man through Lyttelton Records next month. Looking overseas, Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore officially announced that he will be putting out a new album in October by sharing titular single 'The Best Day'. The legendary Leonard Cohen also shared new song 'Almost Like The Blues' from his upcoming album Popular Problems, which will be out on the same day as his 80th birthday next month. And Aphex Twin is breaking a 13-year hiatus with a new album titled Syro, which was pretty much announced by air balloon and will apparently be out next month.

This week's Caught Live is some fan-footage of Beck and Jenny Lewis covering Rod Stewart's 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy'. It's like a celebrity karaoke session up in here...
