Release Roundup: Hallelujah Picassos, Andre Smith, Horn, Hybrid Rose, Mads Harrop + More

Spring has arrived, sun's out in Tāmaki Makaurau, birdies are chirping and we're looking forward to heading along tonight to the rising star-powered Going Global Artist Showcase (nab tickets HERE if you haven't already). Revisit this week's coverage of Dick Move, Grayson Gilmour, Proteins Of Magic, Bad Taste, Albi & The Wolves and deepState, then hit play below on more local (and related) musical treasures from Hallelujah Picassos, Andre Smith (of Heavy Chest), Horn, Mads Harrop, Hybrid Rose, Biters, and Ōtautahi metal maniacs Bloody Hell.

Election fever has gripped the nation and Tāmaki Makaurau's mighty Hallelujah Picassos hit the bullseye with their ruff 'n' tough new single 'Tax The Rich'. Go catch them as part of the killer lineup for Tone Fest 2023 on 23rd September — get tickets HERE.

Founder of Melbourne via Pōneke high flyers Heavy Chest and recent collaborator with Benee, Andre Smith shares dreamy new solo single 'Next to My Body' featuring ives, via French imprint Nice Guys.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara's guitar-wrangling trio of Abigail Macilquham, Rebekah Leah and Synthstrom Deluge creator Rohan Hill, Horn venture to the rocky shoreline in a DIY clip for frayed and frazzled 'Instrumental' — from their standout self-titled debut album.

Now based in Ōtepoti, Mads Harrop shares an instantly catchy, spingtime guitar-pop tune about "about the importance of connections. As a neurodivergent person everyday conversations are a mixture of fear or joy. I want to get it right and be in harmony."

Tāmaki Makaurau-based cyber pop star Hybrid Rose dropped bumping new single / video 'Mama' featuring Hazel Rose and "leaked" her sixth studio album MUTATION just in time for Bandcamp Friday, ahead of its launch on streaming services (listen / buy HERE while it's up). "This video was so much fun to make — grabbing my tiddies in a matching cow bowtie and headband while hazel is chillin at the monstrosity plaza!!"

Possessors of basically the best NZ metal band name ever, Ōtautahi's Bloody Hell rip open up an insanity-inducing hellgate of thrash / black metal and hardcore D-beat on their debut nine track opus Blood Metal.

Purportedly an archival reissue of two songs by long-forgotten Shithney, UK punk pioneers Biters, we have a hunch bandmates Mick Teeth, Richard Comparison, Pete Dogshit and Sentimental Steve might be tearing up South Island stages sooner rather than later. Regale your earholes with their ripper 1978 classics 'Guilty' and 'Repeat Offender' — "the proof is in the Yorkshire pudding".
