On the brink of the release of their brand new EP, Your Favourite (Particle Recordings), Beth Torrance and the Garden Party are the much heralded, recent openers for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Throwing Muses and local indie rock luminaries Office Dog.
The Garden Party are a taut, transcendent power trio, impressing all and sundry with their intoxicating slew of sublime hooks, bittersweet melodic sensibilities, sparkling and gritty guitars, and a rhythm section that kicks you in the teeth. Beth Torrance and The Garden Party conjure the amphetamine ache of swingin’ sixties art rock, the heady rush of early nineties fuzz pop, and—in their literary, heartbreak lyrics—the post-post-millennial ennui of right now.
