This November, we’re super excited to welcome back two of our favourite people, as well as introduce NZ to one of the most exciting talents in electronic music today. In the basement, for one night only:
OPTIMO (UK) and AURORA HALAL (US)
Friday 24th November @ Whammy Bar
- OPTIMO -
Earlier this year, Optimo (Espacio) played one of the wildest sets we’ve ever seen. For over five hours Jonnie (JG Wilkes) and Keith (JD Twitch) turned Whammy Bar inside out, with some crazy, unforgettable music. It was a perfect storm: two of the most enigmatic figures in dance music, playing to a beautiful crowd who were just up for anything. We’re so happy to have the duo back in Auckland this November to do it all again.
Since their last visit, the duo has been busy. As well as continuing their hectic touring schedule, and releasing some insane stuff on Optimo Music and its imprints, Optimo celebrated their 20th Anniversary. They did so in their usual style - with a huge party featuring performers from legends like Nurse With Wound and errorsmith, as well as new blood – including our second guest for the evening, Aurora Halal.
- AURORA HALAL -
Aurora Halal is quickly becoming one of the most exciting names in electronic music worldwide. Her creativity is seemingly unlimited - from her hazy and metallic productions on Mutual Dreaming and Lovers Rock, to her back catalogue of raw videography and visual art, to her directing the renowned Brooklyn party series Mutual Dreaming. She also runs the Sustain-Release Festival – a festival that Avalon Emerson recently stated was one of the best she’s ever attended.
Plus – she’s a sick DJ, with a reputation for hypnotic, transportive dancefloor sets. It is no wonder that she has spent the last few years touring some of the world’s most forward-thinking underground clubs and festivals including Unsound, Atonal, Berghain, and many more.
Needless to say - we’re very excited (and a little scared) to see what happens when you get Aurora, Jonnie, and Keith in the same room.
