Luke Munn & Johnny Chang

Luke Munn, coding/composition
Johnny Chang, violin/composition

Source Code brings together live, improvised violin with custom designed software designed to dialogue with it. In this first concert of the 2022 Partitions & Resonances series, Johnny Chang, a veteran of the Berlin experimental music scene, collaborates with Luke Munn, writer and coder. Their work plays with and against the algorithm, exploring the possibility space of the machine as a third agent. Borrowing from different disciplines, the duo combines references to Western classical repertoire with newer production techniques like granular synthesis. The result is a trio of pieces that range from haunting, siren-like sounds, to frenetic loops, chopped samples, and delicate layers.
