Leigh Sawmill presents new music from The Tom Irvine Band - vintage guitar pop with a hint of country and blues.
With support from emerging Auckland duo Decoy Cities, and fabulous vocalist- Steve Tofa (solo set).
With 3 acts on the line up this event promises to be a diverse and exciting musical experience.
TOM IRVINE-
Tom is a finger-style guitarist who plays with a clean, traditional tone reminiscent of George Harrison or Mark Knophler.
The influence of heavier rock styles, along with a funky feel, adds a joyful touch to his playing.
As well as playing solo shows of his original compositions and guesting with horn-stomp ignitors Hopetoun Brown, Tom has lent his guitar picking talents to acts including folk band Nourishment, fusion rockers The Mercenaries and concurrently with soul group The Reputations (aka The Sugarhits) and Fleetwood Mac tribute band, The Fleetwoods.
DECOY CITIES-
Decoy Cities is the new instrumental project from musicians Andrew Keegan and Jared Kahi. The pair have served as the solid, driving rhythm section for many music projects - together as the rhythm section for The Map Room and Little Lapin, but individually as session musicians for Reb Fountain, Breaks Co-Op, Pan Am, Sidekicknick, Blackstratblues among others, as well as being founding members of Eyreton Hall and The Aristocrats respectively. Decoy Cities is a chill, instrumental vibe combining triggered samples and live looping techniques with acoustic drum kit and thumping bass lines. The results are ambient, textural soundscapes but with an underlying groove that sits in the pocket and compels the listener to move.
STEVE TOFA-
Steve is a remarkable vocalist and songwriter with a unique style.
Former bands include Nourishment, The Reputations and The Mercenaries- as well as numerous stage and theatre productions.
Steve was recently an APRA Silver Scroll finalist for his song - Bone Needs Pickin.
