Finalists in the Aotearoa NZ Folk Awards, The Wooden Box Band, will be bringing their friendly sounds to the Inverlochy Art School Cushion Concert series on Friday Decmber 12, at 6 pm.
Known as the capital’s “folk darlings”, members of this six piece urban folk group hail from from Pōneke. Their sound is a unique blend of harmony infused song based music; compared to early Wilco, the Mamas and the Papas, Woodstock acoustic bands and the Fleet Foxes. Voices soar above electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, bass and drums, with occasional blasts of trumpet and violin to round out the sound.
The band started in a different form in the mid 2000s, and since then more than twenty people have moved through the membership. The current line up has been together for about ten years. In that time there have been a number of studio recordings, including My Sweet Town, Gentle Landings, Old World, Far Far Away, and now – Broken River - for which they have been nominated a prestigious nationwide award.
Come along for an evening of live music in the intimate, relaxed setting, of historic Inverlochy House.
Free entry for tamariki and no worries if cushion's aren't your thing - we do have chairs!
Ngā mihi nui to our friends at Wellington City Council for sponsoring our 2025 Cushion Concert series. This helps ensure artists are paid a living wage for their performance. Seventy five percent of all ticket proceeds go directly to the artists.
