Weekly Round Up: Friday 7th April
This week delivered big on the tour news. We were stoked to announce Queens Of The Stone Age are coming back to New Zealand in July for one earth-shaking show. That same month will also see Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Ros making their long-awaited return to these shores for an Auckland appearance. One man trash-blues band Bob Log III is cannonballing back this way for three dates in May. Ben Ottewell of Gomez is coming for two solo shows in June. Gothic folk artist Gemma Ray announced four shows in support of her latest album The Exodus Suite. Dunedin gothronica trio Elan Vital revealed a string of dates for their Shadow Self release tour. And the "godfather of dancehall" Johnny Osbourne has lined up two North Island shows for next month.
Highlights from this week's release news include the new track from Feist which features a spoken word performance from Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. French psychedelic-pop artist Melody Prochet aka Melody's Echo Chamber shared the lead single from her upcoming sophomore record Cross My Heart. At The Drive In let loose fiery new cut 'Hostage Stamps' as they inch closer to the release of their first album in 17 years. Locally, Mermaidens shared news of their forthcoming second album Perfect Body along with lead single 'Lizard'. Dunedin duo Ov Pain lifted the lid off their dystopian tune 'B C I' ahead of the release of their self-titled cassette. And on the streaming front, soak up Future Island's highly anticipated fifth album The Far Field while you read our review.
This weekend's Caught Live is a great fan-shot video of France's Alcest performing 'Délivrance' at a recent show in Philadelphia. You can catch them live in New Zealand later this month...
