Weekly Round Up: Friday 23rd June
Some big tour announcements came through the wires this week!! Sir Paul McCartney is coming this way in December for his first New Zealand show since 1993. The Weeknd revealed one date on our shores as part of his Starboy tour. Queens rapper Pharoahe Monch is coming back this way for a special show in September followed by six dates across Australia. Also in September, alt-rock icons The Dandy Warhols will be winging their way over for two performances. Grindcore legends Napalm Death are returning in October with their buddies Brujeria and Lock Up in tow. Post-hardcore crew Hawthorne Heights announced their first ever New Zealand show for September. And last but certainly not least, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Parasio U.F.O will be bringing their mind-altering psychedelia to our shores in August.
In release news, lots of local goodies came out of the woodwork. We were very excited by news that Wellington's Disasteradio is readying to release his first album in seven years and as a taste he shared lead single 'Oh Yeah'. Synthpop songstress Chelsea Jade, who is now based in Los Angeles, let loose her latest tune 'Ride Or Cry'. Auckland rapper Randa surfaced out of the blue with bouncy new cut 'Fashion'. On the video front, wry songsmith Kane Strang shared a charming clip for his single 'My Smile Is Extinct' from his upcoming sophomore album. And Mermaidens served up a visual treat for their new offering 'Satsuma'. In streaming highlights, we reckon you should get the debut EP from Auckland synthpop artist A.C. Freazy up in your grill. Further abroad, Ohio's Guided By Voices have announced their 25th album, and shared new single 'Just To Show You'. And the Wu-Tang Clan dropped killer new cut 'Don't Stop' which will features on the soundtrack for one of our favourite shows, Silicon Valley.
This week for Caught Live we have to share this clip of Mac DeMarco and band on Conan performing 'On The Level' which is probably our fave from his new album This Old Dog...
