Weekly Roundup: Friday 28th June

Weekly Roundup: Friday 28th June

Friday 28th June, 2019 3:11PM

This week has seen an avalanche of local releases and news, with UTR acting editor Annabel Kean only just managing to dig a way out by Friday, shovelling past Savage remixes, DIY videos and Wellington pop singles. The Winter tour schedule is looking tight too, after a flurry of announcements over the week; Ōtepoti songwriter and One Direction connoisseur Repulsive Woman aka Millie Lovelock (Astro Children) rolled out her Aotearoa tour schedule and shared her keenly-anticipated solo album Relief; UTR has the privilege of presenting Sydney dreamboat and powerhouse Kirin J Callinan for his four-date NZ tour in August, and Tāmaki Makaurau pop newcomer Harper Finn announced his headline Auckland show and 7" giveaway cued up for next month.

It’s as if the NZ music industry all agreed to release music at the same time this week, perhaps in an attempt to warm the UTR office up through the power of ferocious typing. Elusive punks and "Auckland's premiere four-headed homunculus" Horror In Clay have dropped their debut album via Leeds-based indie label Muzai Records, Tāmaki Makaurau producer and electronic artist Amamelia gave Savage hit 'Swing' a fresh lick of dance beats and tweaks on track 'Drop It Low', Ōtepoti surf rock four-piece Koizilla are back on the scene with fuzz-soaked single 'I Can’t See Anything', Paperghost (project of Pōneke sound designer / producer Zach Webber) shared a shimmering new instrumental LP This Is A Miracle Village, Pōneke psych-pop foursome Earth To Zena released two tracks from their Transmundane companion EP Transmutations, songwriter and producer Hybrid Rose gifted listeners glittery new single 'Dream Team', and bedroom-pop prince Lontalius made all our dreams come true with the first single from a new album.

Today’s Caught Live features Tāmaki Makaurau noise fiends Tooms, who have two massive shows lined up in coming months. This weekend they play Evil Twinn double venue extravaganza with Hex, Slumbug, Hagseed, Hedge Fund Trader, Naust, Pulvinar and Contenders on Friday night. They’ve also got a spot on the Loserpalooza 2019 line-up in August. Check them out in their 95bFM Drive Island set playing the hell out of their sick track 'Black Hands'
