
Audio Foundation Summer Sound Series Announced
Tāmaki Makaurau-based experimental facilitators the Audio Foundation have lifted the lid on the programme for their 2020 Summer Sound Series, dishing up a tantalising banquet of events for open-eared listeners to look forward to. Highlights include the latest SPELEO-SONICS event activating the environment of a Maungawhau lava cave in early February, featuring Japanese sound artists Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda, a site-specific performance evening at (and in the pedestrian tunnel underneath) Parnell Train Station with a lineup including Canadian free improvisors The Monicker Trio, and a free Aotea Square Music in the Square event featuring German electro-acoustic musician Annette Krebs. The Audio Foundation’s 2020 programme begins with a bang!
The first week of February will see a series of events held throughout Tāmaki Makaurau featuring acclaimed international artists alongside local performers. This series heralds a new year of programming in adventurous sound and music, showcasing the site-sensitive explorations of Aki Onda and Akio Suzuki (Japan), the humorous and expansive free improvisation of The Monicker Trio (Canada/U.K), and the microscopical electro-acoustics of Annette Krebs (Germany). Over 5 days, performances will be held at locations throughout the city, beginning within one of its unique lava caves, before moving to Platform Gallery at the Parnell Train Station, Aotea Square, and the Audio Foundation on Poynton Terrace.
