Weekly Roundup: Friday 11th September

There's no need to twiddle our thumbs while Aotearoa waits to move down to Alert Level 1 status, as there's plenty of safely seated options this weekend for gig-goers to enjoy and show their support for our live music community —as featured in the gig picks below. While sadly today is when The Others Way 2020 festival was originally due to take over Tāmaki Makaurau's inner city venues, there's still lots to look forward to, as we cross our fingers and keep masked up towards the return of no-limits gigs in the near future.

Announcement highlights for the week included — recipient of more music awards than you've had hot dinners, Lyttelton songwriter extraordinaire Delaney Davidson has lifted the lid on an intimate run of South Island tour dates kicking off in late October, Ōtautahi songwriter Mousey aka Sarena Close revealed supports for her spring nationwide tour, Tāmaki Makaurau extreme metal titans Ulcerate announced a new Wellington launch event alongside brothers in arms Vassafor for their intense new opus Stare Into Death And Be Still, and Pōneke-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Arjuna Oakes is playing a two night release extravaganza this very weekend at his hometown's San Fran for his smooth groovin' new single 'Cautionary Tale'.

We were honoured to host an in-depth conversation between Tāmaki Makaurau rap icon Diggy Dupé and Ōtautahi producer Liam K. Swiggs, aka the Belfast Bottlestore Bandit and founder of The Big Fresh Collective — read the interview delving into Dupé's new record here. We were equally stoked to feature an interview with none other than 2020 Taite Music Prize winner Troy Kingi, exploring his funk and soul-infused album The Ghost of Freddie Cesar, conducted by Priya Sami (Trip Pony, Dateline, Sami Sisters) — dive into their conversation and listen to Kingi's outstanding new record here.
