Al Park Shares New Album 'Pony'
It's been a long time coming, but Lyttelton songwriting legend Al Park (widely credited as father figure for the 'Lyttelton Sound' and "the first guy to bring punk music to Otautahi") has graced this Friday with his first album in over twenty years Pony. Celebrating tonight with a knees-up at his hometown's The Loons, Park will be joined for this exceptionally rare occasion by special guests Adam McGrath & Jess Shanks and Adam Hattaway & Tess Liautaud. Co-produced with Elmore Jones and Hattaway, who both also perform on the record, Pony serves up ten timeless tunes drawing upon a lifetime's worth of experience, from the hugely influential Al’s Bar proprietor and former frontman of Louie and the Hotsticks (among his many accomplishments) — "an Americana, country rock album featuring songs written by Al from the 1970's to now." Well worth the wait, give your ears a treat and hit play on Pony...
"It has a retro sound that covers my history in music - Tom Petty, Rolling Stones,Steve Earle, Bob Dylan-they're all lurking in the grooves of this album. If you grew up in the late 20th century then this is for you. If you're a 21st-century citizen then let me take you back in time." — Al Park
