Weekly Round Up: Friday 13th December

Friday 13th February, 2015 3:32PM

There was a real mixbag of tour announcements this week, with a number of international acts announced for March. British post-punk icons The Pop Group are heading to New Zealand for one show at the beginning of the month. Trap producer RL Grime will be flying in from Los Angeles for one performance in Auckland. Electro-pop wonder Kiesza will be coming to these shores for the first time for a single show at The Powerstation. And later in the month, Bloc Party frontman Kele will be playing a show off the back of the release of his solo album Trick. Then in May, the Supersuckers are heading over with The Bellrays to battle things out on a Rockpocalypse tour. Also in May, A$AP Ferg is returning to New Zealand for two shows. And closer to home The Lonesome Pine Specials are taking their Appalachian styled sounds for an extensive tour around the nation with support from Australian old time sing song man Archer.

In local release news, The Raw Nerves have unleashed a couple of songs from their new album More Nerves due out in April. Auckland ambient-pop act Aporia shared a single from his forthcoming EP. Wellington-based producer Pikachunes unveiled the most excellent single 'Writer's Block' as a taster of his forthcoming album Allely, which he is previewing live tonight at a gig at Meow. Auckland's Team Cat Food snuck out a couple of albums via Bandcamp, which are for dancin' and romancin' separately. And Unknown Mortal Orchestra shared single 'Multi-Love' the title-track from a forthcoming album due out May. In international news, Florence And The Machine announced a new album and simultaneously unveiled a striking video for 'What Kind Of Man'. Post-punk icon Paul Weller shared a shredder of a single in anticipation of his new record Saturn's Pattern. And Hot Chip let loose the lead single from their new album Why Make Sense?, due out mid-May.

This week's Caught Live comes courtesy of Flying Out, who put together a wee interview with Mermaidens which closes with the Wellington three-piece performing new track 'Slow Day' live...
