Weekly Round Up: Friday 24th July

Friday 24th July, 2015 2:25PM

It was one of those weeks that brought with it a real mix of tour news. We had Misfits announcing their return to New Zealand for three shows in December. On the other end of the sonic spectrum, Naughty By Nature are swinging by the country in November for one night of old school jams. In fact, November is set to be pretty busy, that same month will see Florence And The Machine returning to New Zealand for one hair-raising performance, and wry Melbourne-based songstress Courtney Barnett also heading back this way for three concerts.

In local tour news, SJD announced two special shows that will see a string quartet joining him to perform new album Saint John Divine in full along with special guest Shayne P Carter. And Don McGlashan has unleashed a raft of dates that will see him touring the country in support of his latest album Lucky Stars. In festival news, Northern Bass revealed their first line-up announcement, as did the organisers of Raggamuffin. And on a slightly smaller scale, the folk at Flying Out announced a one-day event for September called The Other's Way, which will see 90s icons Garageland playing in their original line up, alongside a whole host of fantastic local acts.

In release news, Kurt Vile let loose the fantastic first single from this forthcoming album b'lieve i'm goin down, along with the revelation the record will be out late September via Matador. Prolific guitar slayer Ty Segall shared a couple of tracks from his trio Fuzz (in which Segall takes up drum duties), in anticipation of releasing their sophomore album later this year. A bit closer to home, New Gum Sarn unveiled a wonderfully dizzying clip to accompany the title-track from their new album New Gold Mountain. The Blue Bloods released not one, but two new EPs and made them available on Bandcamp for streaming. And musical miscreants The Cavemen unleashed a killer video for their track 'Stand By Your Ghoul' from their debut album out later this year through 1:12 Records.

This week's Caught Live is Ryan Adams (who was just on these shores last week) covering Foo Fighters' track 'Times Like These' as a nod to Dave Grohl for soldiering on and performing while having a busted leg...
