Firefly and Manzanza Funky Tussle Showdown
Wellington's finest playing some of the golden funky beats. The Funky Tussle Showdown alludes to the fact that the music can go in a myriad of directions. When these musicians play together they keep it funky and steamy keeping the crowd moving and entertained; sometimes hints of 1990s RnB emerges as well as the rhythmic flavours of Congo highlife music, Jamaican jazz and deep Fela Kuti inspirations as well.
Justin Firefly Clarke first met Myele Manzanza when he was a young boy though his musician father Sam Manzanza. Many journeys later Myele has become a significant musical contributor to the New Zealand music scene and a powerful and unique drummer. Myele's style is passionate and powerful and weaves the rhythms of Africa into progressive jazz expressions and innovative beats.
Justin Firefly Clarke is a musician that is difficult to define as he weaves between Hendrix inspired sonic landscapes, classical orchestra compositions, complex jazz guitar and intense instrumental Balkan, Greek, Ethiopian and Indian music collaborations.
Bohemian Thought, on vocals, is a spoken word poet, singer, songwriter and percussionist (aka poetic philosopher). After a brief foray into the spoken word, theatre and poetry scenes in London this new inspiration led Bohemian on a whirlwind journey that landed him in New Zealand in 2006.
On bass-end and keyboards will be Christopher Yeabsley from Twinset, Shogun Orchestra and The Eggs. Chris has been called the Spiderman for his incredible independence of feet hands and hands when playing the boogaloo organ. Perhaps this old nickname refers to catching the audience in his web of groove also'
