Weekly Round Up: Friday 25th September

Friday 25th September, 2015 3:58PM

Another seven days has flown by and we are getting ever closer to prime tour season which means things are getting busy!! This week's big news was of course the unveiling of the Laneway Festival line up for the 2016 event. Also massive news was that Auckland is getting its very own version of Austin City Limits next year, no line-up has been announced for Auckland City Limits but we can't wait to see what surprises it will bring. Brisbane-based group Violent Soho (who are on the bill for Laneway) revealed they will be jumping the ditch for their New Zealand debut a little earlier, with a show lined up for October. Norwegian black metal outfit 1349 are bringing their aural hellfire to Wellington for one breakneck show in February. In local tour news, Boycrush announced a "mildly belated" tour to celebrate the release of Girls On Top. Dunedin instrumental duo Triumphs have lined up a five-date tour to support the recent release of their debut record. Rackets are escaping Auckland for three shows around the country next month. And Lawrence Arabia has planned a little solo jaunt around the nation for next month, which will see him air some new material from his forthcoming record.

In release news lots of interesting things came out of the local woodwork. We copped the first new track from Paquin in two years along with news they have a new EP on the way. Wellington solo act Scuba Diva emerged on the scene with his debut single called 'What's The Point' which was recorded with Kody Nielson. Another fresh project to surface is that of Dunedin-based act Kairi, who has quietly released an excellent eight-song album on Bandcamp.  The very talented Lontalius shared a new goosebump inducing track along with news that he has signed to American label Partisan Records. And in terms of newly dropped albums, there are streams to soak up from Auckland group Sunken Seas who also revealed some supporting tour dates, The Situations unveiled their long awaited sophomore album Forever Scene Changes, and Christchurch group The Dance Asthmatics dropped their excellent EP Lifetime Of Secretion.

This week's Caught Live is San Fran group Deerhoof getting experimental at the site of the Large Hadron Collider...
