Weekly Roundup: Friday 17th January

C.C. / Friday 17th January, 2020 3:35PM

Everyone was back in the office following the summer break period this week, just in time for our local news cycle to really start cranking. Announcement highlights for the week included NYC songwriting superstar Greta Kline's group Frankie Cosmos are returning to Aotearoa for two North Island shows in early April, and Shanghai psych-rockers Mirrors 解离的真实 are playing an extensive run of NZ shows in February and March. Lyttelton songwriting maverick Delaney Davidson is returning to local stages this summer for an extensive and varied run of events, including a Napier support slot for Elton John (!), The Mutton Birds revealed regional supports for their forthcoming summer headline events, Ōtautahi folk legend and troubadour Adam McGrath (The Eastern) is gracing the country with an extensive nationwide tour alongside Scottish harp player and vocalist Esther Swift, 95bFM revealed a seriously stacked lineup of local faves for their The Night Before Auckland Anniversary Day rager, and London-based, Aotearoa rising star Molly Payton is playing an intimate pair of gigs in Auckland and Wellington, ahead of the March launch of her debut Mess EP. Lovers of experimental sounds of all stripes will want to sink their teeth into the Audio Foundation's Summer Sound Series of events for early February, study up the details here.

Auckland punters are being treated to the local debut live appearance of The Sound Revisited, featuring UK post-punk legends The Sound's original drummer Mike Dudley celebrating his group's classic songs with friends tonight at Neck Of The Woods alongside Voom – read our informative Q&A with Dudley about the show and more right here. We were thrilled to premiere today the latest soulful dose of catchiness from Tāmaki Makaurau neo-soul dream team Skilaa, listen to 'But I Do' here and stay tuned for the upcoming drop of their yet-to-be-named debut EP. While you're enjoying that song you can dive into Hunter Keane and Fluffy's reviews of FOMO 2020 – feat. Lizzo, Brockhampton, Kaytranada and more – read their hot takes on the star-studded affair and gaze longingly at Connor Crawford's stunning snaps over here.

Our Caught Live video for the week spotlights the work of French synth lord Perturbator, hitting Aotearoa for roof-raising headline events in Auckland and Wellington this coming February. Witness the mind-blowing spectacle of Perturbator playing their massive track 'Future Club' (from 2014's Dangerous Days) live at Metronum in Toulouse, which should probably come accompanied with a content warning: strobe lights...
