Listen To Lips' New Album 'I Don't Know Why I Do Anything'
Lips take you through eleven pop-fuelled scenes on new album I Don't Know Why I Do Anything, with each track custom recorded to take listeners into the world of the song. Inspired by their eight-year Daffodils detour, which included writing and touring a musical followed by scoring the feature film adaptation of said musical, their songwriting on the new album has been built around the life of a character — a giant pair of walking, singing yappers. On the likes of 'What The Hell', 'Guilty Talk' and Silver Scroll short-lister 'Your Deodorant Doesn't Work', Lips is loud, cynical, and on the brink of some sort of breakdown, only to end up totally exposed on heartbreaking love song 'Empty Hours' and bedroom confessional 'Sometimes I’m Afraid', which tells the story lyrically and musically of "someone growing ever more insecure in their relationship", recorded with the band playing through a wall.
Lips founders Steph Brown and Fen Ikner take bandmates Ruby Walsh (Dateline) and Maude Morris (Lexxa) with them on their celebratory album tour this month and next, joined by co-headliners Phoebe Rings. First stop Pōneke next Saturday, or catch their free shows at the Ellen Melville Centre and Flying Out this weekend...
