Drunk Mums Share Protest Anthem 'Genocide (Live)' - Touring Aotearoa NZ This Week

Chris Cudby / Tuesday 7th October, 2025 10:04AM

Directly calling out what our current lot in the Beehive are clearly too cowardly / ethically compromised to recognise, Naarm rockers Drunk Mums have shared urgent protest anthem 'Genocide'. A searing response to the ongoing horrors inflicted upon the Palestinian people in Gaza, a live version is out now exclusively on YouTube, encouraging viewers to donate to Australia-based organisation PARA (Palestine Australia Relief & Action) — who provide relief, advocate for justice, and assist Palestinian migrants and refugees. Read frontman Jake Dingo's perspective on the song (recorded at their hometown’s The Forum) below and don't miss Drunk Mums touring nationwide throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, starting tonight at Pōneke's Valhalla...

"This was the first time performing the song, and it made me very emotional on stage because the topic is so frickin’ heavy. The next day I listened to the recording twice on my drive back to the venue to pick up our gear, and I was a mess — full-blown tears during both listens.

It’s like all the horrific scenes I’ve been witnessing from over there for the past two years — all those emotions bottled up for so long — just poured out. It was also difficult to shake that feeling onstage and then follow it up with another song about partying, which is our usual topic. A weird feeling.

The scenes we’ve been seeing from Palestine over the past two years have been absolutely horrifying, and I’m sure I’m not speaking for just myself when I say it’s been disgusting seeing the amount of lies Israel has been getting away with while killing so many innocent people.

This performance — imperfect and raw — we hope prompts reflection, discussion, and, where possible, tangible support through organisations like PARA." - Jake Dingo
