Weekly Round-Up: Friday 19th October

Friday 19th October, 2012 12:20PM

The tours kept flowing this week with the announce of  Wilco returning in April for two shows and Ringo Starr returns for the first time since touring with The Beatles some 50 years ago. Mount Eerie aka American musician Phil Elverum also confirmed his New Zealand dates, making his way over for the first time in February and Queens chef turned rapper Action Bronson will also make his way over for the first time playing one Auckland date in January.

Other tours announced include Funk icon Fred Wesley, Cairo Knife Fight with Decortica and a Kendrick Lamar date was due to be announced Thursday morning but the news has since been pulled.

In local music news, Watercolours aka Auckland musician Chelsea (Jade) Metcalf took out the 2012 Critics Choice Prize on Wednesday evening. Popstrangers finally announced details of their long awaited debut album Antipodes earlier this week,  debuting new track 'Heaven' via Stereogum which would have given their CMJ campaign a boost. Ghost Wave also got some favourable press leading into CMJ listed as one of Nylon Magazine's buzz bands and Brooklyn Vegan gave New Zealand's showcasing artists a good plug. Back home, Beastwars announced the release of a 7" single and are playing some shows to celebrate and Jakob's Jeff Boyle and Kerretta/Avotor's Hamish Walker are also releasing a new album on vinyl under their MEAN moniker.

Two music videos caused a bit of a stir this week and are definitely worth a watch when you get a moment this weekend (which is a long one yeyaah!). Both are awesome in their own way and will no doubt be watched with interest for many years...

Lana Del Rey lets loose with a bunch of bikers in her clip 'Ride'...

Die Antwoord, already well known for their crazy videos, show their disdain for Lady Gaga in their new clip 'Fatty Boom Boom':
