Weekly Round-Up: Friday 5th April
Now in April the tour news has certainly quietened down with nothing new of note to report this week but luckily there is plenty to report on the new music front...
Internationally, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' hotly anticipated new album Mosquito has been made available to preview in full along with intro from the band; Kurt Vile's new album Walking on A Pretty Daze is out today here in NZ and is streaming in full via NPR; The Knife's socio-political new album Shaking The Habitual is available to stream via Pitchfork Advance ahead of it's release next week; M83's original soundtrack for new Tom Cruise film Oblivion is available to stream in full via Mashable; Vampire Weekend have released two tracks from their forthcoming album Modern Vampires of the City; and Black Sabbath have unveiled the artwork for their new album 13, out in June, along with a snippet of a new track.
Locally, Flying Nun have announced the reissue of the debut releases from The Bats and Snapper on vinyl for Record Store Day; new Christchurch label Melted Ice Cream released an excellent compilation album for free download; and we caught up with Finn Andrews from The Veils about his new album Time Stays, We Go and posted the second single.
Caught live this week we have an awesome performance by Deerhunter on US talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The band debuted the first single and title track from their new album Monomania with frontman Bradford Cox taking on a rock start persona likened to, maybe mocking even, Faris Badwan of The Horrors...
The Flaming Lips also employed some curios theatrics on their talk show spot this week - here they are performing 'The Sun Is Rising' from their forthcoming new album The Terror on Letterman...
There are HEAPS of great gigs on this weekend - check out some of our picks below and head over to our nationwide Gig Guide for more...
