Jon Toogood’s acclaimed act The Adults are hitting the road again this winter, with a brand new lineup featuring axe-legend Aaron Tokona of Cairo Knife Fight. Tokona steps into Shayne Carter’s guitarist role, and will bring a new dimension to The Adults’ sound.
“The last time I played with Aaron was in an AC/DC covers band for a friend’s birthday,” says Toogood. “I thought I was an OK guitar player. He made me feel like a crap guitar player.”
The gigs follow a well-received stint on the Winery Tour this summer, and are the band’s only headline gigs for 2013.
The Adults revolve around Shihad singer Toogood, supported on record by a large and varied cast of prominent New Zealand musicians including Ladi6, the Nielson brothers and Anika Moa. They released their debut album in 2011, and have solidified around a touring lineup of Toogood, Dimmer’s Shayne Carter, ex-Fur Patrol singer Julia Deans and orchestral percussionist Steve Bremner. With Carter busy finishing up a solo album, the guitarist slot was open, and Tokona was the perfect replacement.
The tour represents one of the last opportunities to catch the band playing the self-titled debut before they head into the studio to record a follow up later this year.
The band are playing five shows around the country, starting in Masterton on June 27th and finishing at Wellington’s San Francisco Bathhouse on July 6th.
