Gig Information

Matthew Young is set to bring his dynamic, honey-souled voice for his first string of headline shows in Australia and New Zealand for the release of his EP ‘Fruit’ out May 25th. Kicking off in Auckland, Young will play at Galatos on June 22, and then head over to Australian shores to play Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on June 28 , before playing Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on June 29 and Sydney’s The Lansdowne on June 30 . The following weekend caps off an impressive debut run with two more shows at Jack Rabbit Slims in Perth on July 6 and Adelaide’s Rocket Bar on July 7 .

Young will be performing with his band songs from the forthcoming EP ‘Fruit’ along with his debut ‘Dive EP’. With two #1 airplay tracks on Triple J already from the ‘Fruit’ EP in ‘Collect’ and ‘Hey’, the announce of these shows also marks the release of his new single ‘Fix Me Up’. Another slice of impeccably produced and cleverly layered pop - ‘Fix Me Up’ is Matthew Young at his most affecting and authentic. A slower-tempoed statement of recognisable grooves, resounding synths and echoed guitar chords give way to Young’s deluxe falsetto vocals.

‘Fix Me Up’ joins the already loved ‘Collect’ ‘Hey’ and recent cover ‘Running Up That Hill’. Flooded with emotion, Young's re-work of the 80s cult-classic ‘Running Up That Hill’ continued on from summer’s stripped-back ‘Hey’ which has amassed close to 3 million collective streams and nods from Oyster, Hilly Dilly and more. ‘Hey’ was the second consecutive single to deservedly be added to triple j following his earlier, instant track ‘Collect’.

Young says of the EP and tour: “I’m very happy to have this body of work completed in entirety with a release date set. These songs were written over the course of a weird time in my life, with a lot of shit up in the air, so it’s good to feel like I’m on solid ground again, with a release and shows. Hope you dig it BBs and I can’t wait to hit the road and see you soon.

Welcoming the 'Fruit' tour, Matthew Young has graced the live stage only two times before - his first ever show supporting Lorde for Melodrama, his second a showcase for Laneway Australia. With the release of ‘Fruit’, Young is set to maintain his position at the forefront of boundary-pushing, emotive R&B. Make sure you join Matthew Young from the beginning on his debut live and intimate tour.
